NIIFT to open a branch in Jalandhar
Recently, Mr Manoranjan Kalia, Punjab state Industry Minister announced that Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT) will be opening its branch in Jalandhar, very soon. Speaking to a group of reporters, Mr Kalia told, “Keeping in mind the demand of Fashion designers in the country, it has been decided to open a branch of NIIFT in Jalandhar, which is hub of leather industry". According to the State Minister, for setting up the institute a land of 2.72 acre has been allocated and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would lay down the foundation of the building for institute on January 1. Further continuing the context, he said that one of the Mohali based NIIFT was already operational in the textile hub city of Ludhiana and in Jalandhar it would be second branch, where nearly 80 students can get admission in the academic year of 2009-2010. This institute in Jalandhar, whould benefit leather/sport wear industries in and around of the city immensely and would cater to the need of trained fashion designers for the present requirement and future expansion of the textile industry.
